Drastic Drop in Temperatures, Showers & Flurries Possible Sunday

We won't see much in terms of rain and snow, but much colder air lurks just around the corner.

With a high of 71°, this Saturday afternoon was the warmest we’ve seen in 41 days. We hope you’ve enjoyed this lovely spring-like weather, because big changes lurk just around the corner. Expect temperatures to tumble for the next 36 hours as cold air rushes in from the northwest. Highs will struggle to get out of the 30s and 40s for the second half of the weekend. A few showers may sweep into the Carolinas late Sunday morning into the afternoon, but don’t expect much. Flurries are also possible later in the day, mainly north of I-40. The bigger story will be the cold air.

Most communities will wake up to lows well below freezing Monday morning. Fortunately for spring-lovers, a steady diet of sunshine and winds shifting out of the southwest will bring temperatures back above normal by midweek. We’ll have to watch carefully for another strong cold front at the end of the week ahead. Instead of wintry weather this time around, we may be talking about strong storms. Stay tuned!
