Discussion:
Clouds will begin to fill in today with highs reaching the low 60s this afternoon. An isolated shower across the mountains and foothill will be possible, but better rain chances come into the forecast Thursday. A strong cold front will bring the threat for severe weather across the south Wednesday night into Thursday from the Arklatex through Mississippi and Alabama with damaging wind and a few tornadoes possible. Locally, Thursday will be warm ahead of this front temps will soar into the low 70s Thursday afternoon. Showers will begin west by late afternoon for the mountains with rain and a few storms beginning across the Piedmont well after sunset. The severe threat will diminish as this front reaches the Carolinas, but there is still the potential for damaging wind gusts overnight Thursday into early Friday morning. With plenty of moisture streaming into the region from the gulf, heavy downpours will be possible and localized flooding will need to be monitored especially across the higher elevations. Rain will wrap by mid-morning Friday for the area. It will be breezy with gusts 30-40 mph possible through Friday afternoon. Mild and dry for the weekend with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Rain chances return late Monday.
