CATS Workers Demand Increased Security Following Murder Of Driver
CHARLOTTE – The City of Charlotte paused for a moment of silence remembering the life of a CATS bus driver shot and killed while on the job.
It’s been one week, and CMPD is still searching for Ethan Rivera’s killer. Authorities say the 41-year-old was shot in an act of road rage in Uptown. And, now, other CATS employees are speaking out, expressing their concerns for their own safety.
“The bus drivers, bus operators of this city, we’re good people, we’re trained professions and treat us that way,” said one of the drivers.
“I’m gonna ask you out there that can make a change for the safety of your drivers that help our city move,” says Willis Draughn, community activist.
CATS bus operators have a list of demands for CATS management as well as city leaders. Here’s the list:
-Bullet Resistant Partitions
-Security on all routes
-Flags at half staff
-Emergency meeting by CEO
-Working phones in all vehicles
CMPD says the suspect who killed Rivera was driving a 2003 to 2005 black Honda Pilot with running boards on both sides of the vehicle. If you know anything about this case call Crimestoppers.
