On February 22nd around 6:45 p.m., officers and fire and rescue personnel responded to a reported serious collision involving a motorcycle and one other car on W. Garrison Boulevard at Overhill Street.

Initial investigation reveals that a 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling east on W. Garrison Boulevard approaching Overhill Street, at the same time a 2018 Buick SUV  was traveling west on the same road.

Investigators say as the Buick driver attempted to turn left onto Overhill Street, she turned directly in front of the path of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to collide with the Buick.

The motorcycle driver, 21-year-old Deveon Darby of Gastonia, was taken to a local hospital following the crash where he was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.

Investigators say the driver of the Buick has since been identified as Crosby and she has been placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.

The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing.
