How Much Money Would It Take For You To Quit Social Media For Years?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Could you stay off social media for six years in exchange for money? One teenager in Minnesota did just that. When Sivert Klefsaas was just 12 years old, his mom offered him $1,800 to stay off social media until he was 18. His mom created the “18 for 18” challenge after she saw her daughter giving all her attention to her phone and apps. Sivert says the decision to accept the challenge was easy. He says, “Being 12, I didn’t really have any concept of money yet. So I was like ‘aw, sick, absolutely!'” His mom, Lorna Klefsaas says, “I’ve had it now, just kind of in my savings for probably six months, because at that point I knew for sure he was going to make it.”

He turned 18 on February 19th and claimed his prize. Sivert says the first app he’s downloading is Instagram. As for the money, he’s planning to buy something for his dorm room when he starts at the University of Northwestern, Saint Paul this fall.

Our question of the night: what would it take for you to give up social media?
