CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives say 18-year-old Nicholas Smith of Charlotte has been charged with murder in the death of his 66-year-old grandfather.
On February 24th shortly after 12 p.m., officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a call for service on Glasgow Road.
At the scene, officers found a victim, Horace Cook, 66, suffering from an apparent injury.
Cook was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene shortly after this to collect evidence.
As a result of their continued investigation, detectives identified Cook’s grandson, Nicholas Smith, 18, as a suspect.
Police say Smith already had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and after locating him in the victim’s car, officers took Smith into custody without incident.
Following an interview with detectives, Smith was taken into custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with murder, armed robbery, and larceny of a firearm.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
