WASHINGTON, D.C.Β — President Biden announced his intent to nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday.
White House officials say currently, Jackson serves as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
If confirmed, officials say she will be the first Black woman to serve in the Supreme Court.
Biden says he conducted a rigorous process to identify the perfect person to be Justice Stephen Breyer’s replacement, after he announced his retirement earlier this year.
As a former clerk of Justice Breyer, officials say Judge Jackson has broad experience across the legal profession including as a federal appellate judge, a federal district court judge, a member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, an attorney in private practice, and as a federal public defender.
