4-Year-Old Hickory Boy In Critical Condition After Accidentally Shooting Himself

HICKORY, N.C. — A 4-year-old boy was airlifted to a local hospital after finding a gun in his Hickory home and accidentally shooting himself Saturday morning, according to police.

The boy is currently in critical condition.

Around 10:35 a.m., Hickory Police Officers responded to a home on 3rd Avenue SW and Frye Medical Center after receiving a 911 call that a 4-year-old boy had shot himself.

An adult family member was in the home at the time of the shooting and immediately called 911 for help, according to a news release.

Police say the child was taken to Frye Regional Medical Center by a family member prior to the arrival of emergency responders.

He was then airlifted to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital.

Hickory Police say β€œThis is a tragic situation and our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”

The investigation into how the child came to be in possession of the firearm is ongoing.
