Police have charged a man with murder for his involvement in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in Lancaster.
Ja’mez O’zecio Dye, 19, of Lancaster is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime for his alleged involvement in the following case.
Detectives say after continuing to interview witnesses and look through evidence, they determined what occurred before, during, and after the incident.
Investigators say several young men were present in and around the apartment when the 16-year-old victim arrived by car and approached the apartment.
Police say an argument led to a physical altercation, during which several shots were fired, and the 16-year-old was struck.
He was then taken to a local hospital by personal vehicle where he died, according to a news release.
Police say the 19-year-old victim, also shot during the same incident, was treated at the scene and later taken to a local trauma center, where he remains recovering from his injuries.
Arrest warrants were issued for Dye last Friday, and police say he turned himself in at the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.
Police say Dye was arrested and booked before appearing before a municipal judge on Wednesday morning, where he was denied bond.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.

LANCASTER, S.C. — Police have opened a homicide investigation after a 16-year-old was killed and an 18-year-old was injured during a shooting at Sycamore Run Apartments in Lancaster on Thursday.
Around 7:10 p.m., officers with the Lancaster Police Department responded to the apartments on Miller Street in reference to a reported shooting.
At the scene, officers discovered a 19-year-old Black man with apparent gunshot wounds to his body.
Officers rendered aid on scene until the 19-year-old was taken to a nearby trauma center for treatment.
During this time, police learned of another gunshot victim connected to this case.
A 16-year-old Black boy had arrived at the hospital in a personal vehicle who was a victim of the Sycamore Run shooting, according to a news release.
Police say the boy died due to his injuries during surgery.
The shooting is under investigation by the Lancaster Police Department Special Operations Division along with the Lancaster County Multijurisdictional Violent Crimes Task Force and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations Division.
Due to the 16-year-old’s age, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Special Victims Unit will also assist in this investigation.
