Are you prepared for severe weather? Do you know where to go? Does your family have a plan? Do you have at least two ways to receive warnings? These are all questions you should have answers to in the event severe weather strikes.
It is important to always have at least two ways to receive warnings:
– The best way to do this is by getting a NOAA weather radio. You can get this at Walmart for about $30. Programming your weather radio is simple and there are easy-to-follow instructions in the box and online.
– Another way to receive warnings is to be sure emergency alerts are ‘on’ on your smartphone. Go to Settings -> Notifications then scroll down and be sure all 3 of the alerts are switched to on. AMBER Alerts, Emergency Alerts, and Public Safety Alerts.
– There are many apps you can download with a great one being the WCCB Weather App. Download it here!
The second thing you need to do is know where to go. You want to be in the lowest level of your home, most interior room & away from windows. If you’re in an apartment, make friends with the people below you today. Protecting your head is important so as you rush into your safe place be sure to grab a helmet, pillow, and/or a mattress.
