Cool & Gloomy Today, Rain & Below Freezing Temps This Weekend

Heavy rain coming early Saturday followed by a temperature freefall.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Thursday will be cooler with below average temperatures as highs struggle to get into the low 50s. A Carolina Wedge will be in place keeping us chilly with clouds and drizzle. Friday will be better as we break out of the wedge, winds shift and warm into the low to mid 60s. A strong cold front will move through late Friday into early Saturday morning bringing rain and thunderstorms to the Piedmont, light snow to the mountains, gusty winds and much cooler temperatures. We’ll wake up to low temperatures in the mid 20s on Sunday morning with wind chills in the teens across the Piedmont and below zero in the Mountains.  

THURSDAY:
Isolated drizzle and showers before around noon. Below average temperatures with highs only in the low 50s.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly Cloudy. Low 50.

FRIDAY:
Not a bad day! Partly sunny. Warmer with highs in the mid 60s.

WEEKEND:
Saturday AM a strong cold front will push through bringing showers to the Piedmont, snow to the Mountains, windy conditions, and a reinforcing shot of cold air. We’ll start the day with temps in the 50s and they’ll freefall throughout the afternoon . Sunday morning will be very cold with a widespread hard freeze. Lows bottom out in the 20s with cooler wind chills. Sunday looks dry and cold with highs in the mid 50s.
