MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Troopers are investigating a fatal collision in Iredell County after the driver of a 2001 Ford Explorer lost control of their vehicle and overturned on Saturday.
The NC State Highway Patrol responded to the collision on I-77 South near Exit 35, Brawley School Road, around 1:25 p.m.
Troopers say the Ford was traveling south on I-77 when it collided with the concrete median barrier, overturned several times, and went down an embankment off the right side of the road.
The 34-year-old man driving the car and a 39-year-old man riding passenger received minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital in Mooresville for treatment.
Troopers say an 8-year-old passenger received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital in Charlotte for treatment.
Investigators say each were restrained by seatbelts.
A rear seat passenger, Niki Jordan, 49, of Statesville, was ejected and critically injured, according to a news release.
Troopers say Jordan died due to her injuries on the way to the hospital.
She was not restrained by a seatbelt.
This collision remains under investigation.
