Mecklenburg County Detention Center To Resume Face-To-Face Visitation

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office will resume face-to-face visitation at Mecklenburg County Detention Center-Central starting on Monday, March 21.

The Monday announcement comes as a result of the decreasing case counts of COVID-19 in the general community and within the detention facility, according to a news release.

The sheriff’s office says that the decision to resume face-to-face visitation comes with careful consideration, planning, and guidance from their healthcare provider Wellpath Inc and Mecklenburg County Public Health.

The face-to-face visits will have no contact with a plexiglass partition. Visitors and residents will be required to wear masks while inside the detention facility.

β€œThis is an opportunity to reunite families safely and hopefully decrease the stress and anxiety levels of the residents and staff inside the facility,” Sheriff Garry McFadden said. β€œThe pandemic has been a strain, but our nationally recognized protocols helped to decrease exposure and cases to a point that we can begin opening visitation again. During my campaign for Sheriff in 2018, face-to-face visitation was one of three promises I made to the community, and I delivered. I recognized the need for humanity then as I do now for both staff and residents. I look forward to seeing these reconnections.”

All visits must be scheduled at least one day in advance, according to a news release. Visitation, scheduling and guidelines can be found online at www.mecksheriff.com by clicking on the Detention Information tab.
