Two Suspects Arrested After Leading Deputies On Vehicle Chase In Alexander County

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Two Taylorsville residents are facing charges after leading deputies on a car chase in Alexander County Wednesday night, according to authorities.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office was conducting a traffic checkpoint around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Millersville Road and County Home Road.

Deputies say a vehicle approached the checkpoint but failed to stop which initiated a pursuit by officers.

Officers chased the vehicle onto NC Highway 16 South until it stopped on Fox Hollow Drive off of Friendship Church Road. The two occupants of the vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Codey Matheson and 30-year-old Stephanie Rood, were detained by authorities.

After a search of the vehicle, officers located marijuana, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

According to deputies, Matheson was arrested and charged with felony speeding to elude arrest. Rood was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, deputies say.
