UNION CO., N.C. — Union County detectives have charged a man with 2nd Degree Murder after discovering he had sold pills containing Fentanyl to an Indian Trail woman who later died.
During a lengthy investigation that began in December of 2021, detectives determined that Logan Ibele provided a quantity of illegally street pressed pills containing Fentanyl to 31-year-old Margaret Jakiela of Indian Trail, N.C.
Police say Jakiela died shortly after ingesting the pills provided to her.
Ibele was served with the 2nd Degree Murder charge on Wednesday at the Union County Jail, where he was already in custody for a prior Trafficking in Opium/Heroin arrest, according to a news release.
Detectives say Ibele was taken before a local judicial official and received an additional secured bond, which increased his total bond amount to 2.75 million dollars.
Sheriff Cathey added, “The criminal investigation conducted in this matter involved nearly every division of this agency working together diligently and efficiently and I could not be prouder of their results. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of UCSO deputies and investigators, Mr. Ibele will no longer be a threat to our community. We hope that this arrest helps bring some level of closure to the family of Ms. Jakiela and we will continue to keep them in our prayers”.
Deputies say the Union County Sheriff’s Office has seen a significant increase in trafficking arrests and narcotics-related deaths over the past year.
