Donations For Ukraine– The Surprising Response When A Local Woman Asked For Help
CHARLOTTE, NC.– The past few weeks, Katie Currin’s eyes have been glued to the news. Watching the horror as Russia invades Ukraine.
“It has broken my heart to watch the news for the past three weeks, plus. And I cannot imagine that ever happening here in the heart of the Ukrainian people to fight back with their bare hands basically is what I think every American would do,” says Currin.
The Kannapolis paramedic of 22 years wanted to do something about it. So she got the idea from her Ukrainian co-worker to donate medical supplies to Ukraine. She posted this call to action on Facebook about two weeks ago.
“I had almost an immediate response. People started asking me how can I get money to you; I put out Venmo, Zell, Apple Pay. I’ve had a couple of checks and a couple of cash donations.”
Over $9,000 have already been donated, with another $2,000 donated by Currin herself. That money is buying so many medical supplies. Currin says she’s overwhelmed by all the support.
“I wanted to do something. I didn’t know where to go or what to do, and I started this, and almost every person who’s talked to me about this has said, I wanted to help out, I didn’t know what to do or where to go or where to send my money.”
