Easy & Breezy First Day of Spring

Above-average temperatures dominate the first week of spring, field by warm southerly winds.

Today may be our last day of winter, but spring is already off to a nice headstart. Temperatures are soaring into the upper 70s around the Piedmont this Saturday afternoon, aided by warm winds out of the southwest. A mainly dry cold front sweeps through the Carolinas tonight, which will bring noticeably cooler air for our first day of spring. That said, highs in the Metro will top out near-average in the upper 60s to kick off the season on Sunday. Expect temperatures closer to 50º in the mountains tomorrow.

The brief cooldown won’t last long. A ridge of Gulf-influenced high pressure slides in from the south through the first half of the week, bringing the 70s back to the forefront for the week ahead. An expansive rainmaking system will bring more showers and storms Tuesday night into Thursday morning, but temperatures look to remain relatively unchanged for much of the week ahead.
