CMPD: I-277 In Charlotte Reopens After Officers Successfully De-Escalate Suicidal Situation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Interstate 277 has been reopened after officers successfully stopped a man threatening to jump from the Caldwell County Street bridge and kill himself early Friday morning.

Shortly before 7 a.m., officers responded to Caldwell Street in reference to a suicide threat call for service.

At the scene, officers made contact with the man who threatened to jump from the bridge onto Interstate 277.

Police shut down I-277 while SWAT members attempted to negotiate with the man.

After speaking with negotiators, the man was safely taken into custody around 9:20 a.m.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., police reopened all roads except for Caldwell Street.

The name of the subject involved in this case has not yet been released.
