The Oscars Slap: Are You Team Chris Or Team Will?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Academy of Motion Pictures is now discussing if further action is needed after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during the Oscars. Academy officials, like many, are reportedly split over what happened. Some in leadership say the Academy mishandled the incident with its tweet condemning the violence. Others feel no further steps need to be taken.

There’s also a question about if Smith should return his Oscar for Best Actor, for violating the Academy’s code of conduct. Smith slapped Rock after Rock’s joke about Jada Smith’s shaved head.

Jada has been open about her struggle with alopecia, an auto-immune disease that causes hair loss. Following the slap, Smith shouts, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth,” twice.

Everyone seems to be weighing in on the moment, with support and condemnation for both sides.

Will and Jada’s son Jaden tweeting, “And that’s how we do it.”
Director Judd Apatow went viral for a now deleted tweet saying, “That’s pure out of control rage and violence.”
Actress Sophia Bush tweeted, “Going after someone’s disease is cruel.”
The Daily Show host Trevor Noah tweeted, “That wasn’t scripted?”

Our question of the night: are you Team Chris or Team Will?
