CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Country star Eric Church has cancelled his gig planned for Saturday night in San Antonio to watch Carolina take on Duke in-person in the Final Four.
As a Carolina native and lifelong Tar Heels fan, Eric Church told his fans that having them matchup in the Final Four for the first time in the history of the NCAA Tournament is any sports enthusiast’s dream.
In a message posted on Ticketmaster, Church says “This is also the most selfish thing I’ve ever asked the Choir to do: to give up your Saturday night plans with us so that I can have this moment with my family and sports community,” he continued. “However, it’s that same type of passion felt by the people who fill the seats at our concerts that makes us want to be part of a crowd at a game of this significance.”
Fans who bought tickets to Saturday’s show at the AT&T Center in San Antonio will be refunded, according to Ticketmaster.
There is no word as of yet about a makeup show.
Church finished his message to his fans by saying “Woody Durham always said, ‘Go where you go and do what you do,’ thanks for letting me go here and be with the Tar Heels.”
Officials say his next concert, planned for Friday in Fort Worth, Texas, remains as scheduled.
Conveniently, Church’s next concert date after the Final Four is in New Orleans.
