CMPD: 18-Year-Old, Two Juveniles Facing Charges For Shooting At Northwest Charlotte Elementary School During Teacher Workday

An 18-year-old and two juveniles are facing charges after a shooting at a northwest Charlotte elementary school Monday morning, police say.

Officers responded to the location after a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and initiated an investigation. Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers located evidence of a shooting in the athletic field area of Oakdale Elementary School.

Through an investigation, officers were able to identify three people involved in the incident and make arrests.

Police say two juveniles were involved in the incident and will be charged after being treated for their non-life-threatening injuries.

The third suspect, identified as Malachi Huggins, was charged with armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon and transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail, according to police.

The suspects in the incident knew each other. Officers say this was not a random act of violence.

The shooting happened on a teacher workday. School staff were inside the school and not in danger from this incident, according to CMPD.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened at a northwest Charlotte elementary school Monday morning.

Officers responded to Oakdale Elementary School after receiving an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call for service.

According to officers, the school was not in session at the time of the shooting.

Monday was a teacher workday for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

Authorities have not released any information on the victim in the case.
