CMS Expands List Of High Schools Required To Have Metal Detectors

The Latest:

CMS moves into Phase II  of its plan to use metal detectors and scanners to increase security in Charlotte High Schools.

The Board of Education held a conference to explain the details of the second Phase. The superintendent along with a student on the board discussed the current agenda to improve school safety.

The following schools have been added to the list:

  • Butler
  • South Mecklenburg
  • West Mecklenburg
  • Myers Park
  • East Mecklenburg
  •  Rocky River

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials say 7 CMS high schools have begun using body scanners/metal detectors as part of its Phase I rollout.

The following schools now have Evolv scanners students must pass through before beginning their day:

  • North Mecklenburg
  • Julius Chambers
  • Harding
  • Mallard Creek
  • West Charlotte
  • Garinger
  • Hopewell
