Afternoon Isolated Severe Storms Possible
Temps will climb today toward 80 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. You’ll notice a difference in a more muggy setup today. We’ll be watching for isolated severe storms to pop between 4 pm – 10 pm this evening when instability will be greatest across the region as a weak boundary lifts across the area.
Overnight Cold Front Brings Another Severe Threat
A strong cold front will bring the chance for more severe storms to the region after midnight. Between 12 am – 2 am will bring the highest severe threat to the mountains and foothills. From 2 am to 4 am that threat will shift toward the I-85 corridor. From 4 am to 6 am this will move toward the I-85 corridor and from 6 am to 8 am this threat will move south and east of Charlotte. Damaging winds will be the greatest threat, as well as isolated tornadoes and even up to quarter-sized hail.
Mountain Snow Friday, Cooler Weekend
Cooler outlook for the rest of the week and weekend. Snow will be possible Friday for the mountains with an inch possible for elevations above 3500′. Temps will fall to the upper 50s for daytime highs Saturday. Overnight lows will drop into the 30s with a freeze possible for parts of the area. Temps will warm back to the mid 70s by early next week.
