A powerful system will bring some big changes to our forecast this weekend. Temps are running 15-25 degrees colder this morning with temps closer to average across the region. Winds will pick up early afternoon with gusts 30-40 mph possible. Temps will drop across the mountains by mid to late afternoon. Moisture will stream into the higher elevations, leading to a change from rain to snow for elevations above 3500-4000′. A winter weather advisory goes into effect with a quick burst of snow bringing 1-3″ through Saturday night across the mountains. Drivers should be aware that not only will roads become slick, but visibility will drop as well with blowing snow becoming a concern. Areas north of I-85 are under a frost advisory tonight with temps falling into the mid 30s. Freeze/Frost a concern across the Piedmont through Sunday with lows falling into the low to mid 30s. Anyone who did any early planting will need to cover, or bring in those sensitive plants. Temps overall will be cooler than average even for daytime highs 10-15 degrees below average.
Warming trend early next week with highs back in the low 80s by Tuesday. Weather will remain quiet with isolated rain chances through Wednesday. Thursday will be a day to watch with a severe threat possible for parts of the southeast.
