Deputies Investigate Break-In, Theft At Lincoln County Rental Storage Facility

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a break-in at a rental storage facility Sunday led to the theft of over $40,000 worth of equipment.

Deputies were dispatched to Landmark Self Storage, located on NC Highway 150 East, around 11:20 p.m. in reference to a break and enter. Upon arrival, they observed a large gate to the business knocked down to the ground. The gate appeared to have been rammed by a vehicle and run over.

The remainder of the facility did not have any additional damage.

At the scene, the owner and an employee informed officers that a now empty parking space contained a black Cam Superline trailer with a John Deere zero turn lawnmower and a side by side Polaris off road vehicle. The value of the stolen equipment was placed around $41,000 and the estimated cost of repair is $5,000, according to a news release.

The theft is believed by authorities to have been done with two pickup trucks. Surveillance video shows one of the vehicles ram the gate multiple times with the other backing up to the trailer and hooking it up.

Both vehicles drove away from the scene traveling in different directions.

On the same day as the break and enter, April 10, a theft of a blue and gray Ford F250 was reported stolen in Catawba County. According to authorities, the vehicle was similar to one of the trucks involved in the break-in.

Deputies say one of the drivers appeared to have visible tattoos on his neck, forearms, hands and fingers. He was wearing a dark colored baseball cap, dark t-shirt, cargo shorts, and ankle length boots.

Anyone with information on the break-in or identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 704-732-9050, the Lincoln County Communications Center at 704-735-8202 or Lincolnton/Lincoln County Crime Stoppers at 704-736-8909.
