Keeping some original elements of the piece, including the lotus flower in the middle, Rain also showcased how his style has changed over the years by adding new bright, vivid elements.
Rain says he kept the lotus as it is a symbol of purity, growth, and transformation and pairs well with NoDa’s evolution.
Original Story (3/3/22):
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina native and international muralist Osiris Rain is being commissioned to repaint a wall in NoDa after his mural on East 35th Street was accidentally painted over.
Officials with the nonprofit, Charlotte is Creative, took to Instagram to address the unfortunate accident.
Officials say a painting company that was contracted to paint over an advertisement mural on the opposite side of the building painted out the wrong mural.
Osiris Rain also addressed the incident on Instagram by thanking the community for their concern and saying it looks like he will be commissioned to repaint the wall with the old design or something new.
Rain says “Honestly, it’s almost a little poetic considering that the lotus mural and the icon of the lotus flower is symbolic of the neighborhood in the idea of growth and change. So perhaps in a way, it was a small blessing and reflective of the nature of NoDa as a growing neighborhood. Thank you again to everyone for your messages of concern. I’m looking forward to creating another special mural for the neighborhood soon.”
