Detectives have identified the woman shot and killed outside a Mint Hill gas station on Thursday as 18-year-old Jayla Symone Barnett.
Police say after reviewing evidence and conducting interviews, it appears there was a physical altercation between the victim and the suspect during which the victim was fatally shot.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.

MINT HILL, N.C. — Police say an 18-year-old Charlotte woman was pronounced dead on Thursday following a shooting outside a Mint Hill gas station.
Mint Hill Police responded to a report of the shooting in the parking lot of a gas station on Albemarle Road around 4 p.m.
At the scene, officers located a gunshot victim inside a car.
Officers then pulled the victim from her car and performed CPR until medical personnel arrived.
Once medical personnel arrived, they took over care of the woman and subsequently pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police say the shooting does not appear to be a random act of violence and the crime scene is still active.
The identity of the victim will be released after family members are contacted.
