CATAWBA, N.C. — A logging truck driver has died after a Catawba County crash early Monday, troopers say.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to Buffalo Shoals Road, near Little Mountain Road, around 1:30 a.m. to investigate a fatal collision.
Through an investigation, troopers determined that a 2001 Mack logging truck was traveling south on Buffalo Shoals Road, ran off the road to the right, and collided with several vehicles in the parking lot of D & R Automotive & Front-End Service.
The truck then overturned and lost the load of logs.
The driver, identified as 68-year-old Danny Lail, died due to to his injuries at the scene, according to officials.
Troopers say he was not restrained by a seatbelt.
There was heavy rain in the area at the time of the collision. The road was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.
