RALEIGH, N.C. – Attorney General Josh Stein and Congresswoman Deborah Ross will hold a press conference on State and Federal efforts to support domestic violence and sexual assault survivors on Thursday, April 21.
Statistics show that someone is assaulted every 68 seconds in the United States. With April being the month of Sexual Assault Awareness, Stein is leading North Carolina’s efforts to support victims and survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. This includes monitoring current and older untested sexual assault kits in law enforcement custody, honing in on legislation and cases to help protect and deliver justice for survivors of sexual assault.
Just last month President Biden reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) which includes Congresswoman Ross’s SANE Act to address the nationwide shortage of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners. General Stein announced a program to train 50 North Carolina nurses to serve as SANEs.
The press conference will be held on Thursday, April 2 from 9 a.m.- to 9:45 a.m.
