Man Arrested, Charged For Pouring Gasoline Outside Boone Church

BOONE, N.C. — A 44-year-old man has been arrested for pouring gasoline outside a Boone church Saturday morning, according to police.

The Boone Police Department responded to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, located on Pilgrims Way, around 8 a.m. after receiving a tip about a suspicious incident.

Through an investigation, officers discovered that a man poured gasoline on a doorway and sidewalk leading into the rear entrance to the church. The investigation, initiated through an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip, led police to speak with Thomas Peluso.

Following an interview, Peluso was arrested and charged with felony aiding in the burning of a religious building, police say. He was taken to the Watauga County Detention Center for confinement.
