Detectives have identified Alphonso Davis, 58, as the suspect responsible for the death of a woman in west Charlotte.
Police placed Davis into custody while he was at the hospital on unrelated charges on the day of the incident.
After the medical examiner’s office declared the death of 62-year-old Donna Weatherford as a homicide, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Davis with murder.
On April 19th around 4 p.m., Davis was released from the hospital to be interviewed by homicide detectives, according to a news release.
Following this interview, detectives placed Davis into custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on the arrest warrant for murder.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a west Charlotte homicide after a person was found dead Friday afternoon.
Police responded to Sloan Drive, nearby the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, around 1:30 pm. in reference to a death investigation call for service.
Homicide Unit detectives also responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
After consultation with the Medical Examiner’s Office the death has been ruled a homicide.
The victim in the case has been identified as 62-year-old Donna Weatherford, according to police.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
