The American Cancer Society Of Western North Carolina And South Carolina Launches Charlotte Chapter Of The Associate Board Of Ambassadors
Charlotte, N.C. (April 20, 2022) – The American Cancer Society (ACS) of Western North Carolina and South Carolina has announced the launch of its Charlotte Chapter of the Associate Board of Ambassadors.
The Charlotte ABOA will be comprised of Charlotte’s up-and-coming professionals from various businesses including IT, financial, medical, and real estate. The board is now accepting applications from additional candidates who want to learn how ACS impacts the lives of cancer patients and their families while having fun and meeting like-minded young professionals.
“Millennials and Gen Z make up 45% of the US population and the American Cancer Society has identified the unique opportunity to build relationships with these individuals starting at a young age and engage them in a meaningful way throughout their lives,” said Lindsay Maggio McElwee, National Director, Young Professionals Development and Engagement, ACS. “Our Associate Board of Ambassadors (ABOA) approach to young professional engagement has seen enormous success in numerous markets. The ABOA recruits YP members giving them opportunities for personal development, networking, and contributing philanthropically within their community. We are thrilled that Charlotte has been chosen as one of a dozen launch sites for our young professionals’ organization rollout in 2022. We are encouraging collaboration amongst our boards nationally so that each market can experience a consistent national presence while remaining locally unique.”
“When I heard about the launch of Charlotte’s own Associate Board of Ambassadors on behalf of the American Cancer Society, I dove right in,” said Rachel Novosel, 2022 Chair ABOA Charlotte and sales, de Soutter Medical USA. “Cancer has touched everyone in some way or another. Growing the ABOA and spreading awareness for ACS in Charlotte is probably one of the most significant things I can do as a young professional and I am just so happy to have the chance to be involved. This is a first for me – volunteering with ACS — however, cancer research and veterinary oncology has been top of mind since my dog passed away from colon cancer in 2017. And my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and has luckily beat it.”
The ABOA will support the fundraising initiatives for the Taste of Hope Charlotte presented by Harris Teeter through social media, networking, and grassroots marketing. The annual fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, at Le Meridien Charlotte (555 So. McDowell St). The event will be a culinary experience.
