Gaston County Woman Canโ€™t Stop Smiling After $150,000 Win

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. (News Release) — Marcie Parfitt of Mount Holly said she keeps smiling so much it hurts after a $5 scratch-off ticket won her a $150,000 prize.

โ€œI canโ€™t wipe the smile off my face,โ€ Parfitt laughed. โ€œMy cheeks hurt.โ€

Parfitt, on her daily trip to the store for coffee, bought her lucky Super Loteria ticket from Xpress Market on Tuckaseege Road in Mount Holly.

โ€œI kept looking at it over and over to make sure it was real,โ€ Parfitt said. โ€œI thought it was fake.โ€

Parfitt, 38, became the first winner in the new Super Loteria game. She said she called her husband right away to tell him the good news.

โ€œHe was like, โ€˜Are you messing with me,โ€™โ€ Parfitt said. โ€œItโ€™s definitely a blessing.โ€

Parfitt arrived at lottery headquarters on Tuesday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $106,516. She said she wants to pay some bills and buy some land with her winnings.

Super Loteria debuted this month with five $150,000 prizes. Four $150,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education. For details on how $14.7 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Gaston County in 2021, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the โ€œImpactโ€ section.
