Panthers Earn Fan Approval With First Round Draft Pick
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carolina Panthers have finally addressed a long standing need: a guy to protect the quarterback. And he’s a hometown guy, to boot. The panther’s chose a Charlotte native in their first round draft. The team is bringing home Ickey Ekwonu. The offensive tackle is an NC State grad, and grew up a Panthers’ fan. He’s spent his whole football career in North Carolina, and says he is excited to continue that trend with the pros.
He says, “I just want to do everything I can to help win. I feel like that kind of just starts with working. Just doing everything I can to be the best player on and off the field. That fact that every step of my football journey I have been in North Carolina, I feel like that says something. I am just really excited for this next opportunity.”
Teams don’t often get to draft hometown guys, but the Panthers have done it twice in a row now. Last year, they drafted South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn.
Our question of the night: do you think the Panthers have a fighting chance this season?
