Juvenile Charged With Murder After Person Found Dead Near East Charlotte Elementary School

A 16-year-old has been charged with murder after a person was found dead near an east Charlotte elementary school on April 21, according to police.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives arrested the juvenile on Friday for the murder of Malik Boyd. The unidentified 16-year-old was transported to the Law Enforcement Center, located on East Trade Street, and interviewed by homicide detectives.

After the interview, the juvenile was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and served with a secure custody order for 1st degree murder, police say.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A homicide investigation is underway after a person was found dead nearby an elementary school in east Charlotte Thursday morning, police say.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to Riding Trail Road, off of Albemarle road, around 6:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a suspicious person call for service.

Upon arrival, officers located a victim with apparent trauma. The victim, identified as 20-year-old Malik Boyd, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
