One Dead, Another Seriously Injured In Catawba County Crash

SHERRILLS FORD, N.C. — One person died and another was seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening in Catawba County, according to the NC State Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to Mount Pleasant Road, near Little Mountain Road, around 6:30 p.m. to investigate a fatal collision.

Through an investigation, patrol officers determined that a 2005 Suzuki XL-7 was traveling south on Mount Pleasant Road, crossed the centerline, and collided head-on with a northbound 2006 Nissan Altima.

The driver of the Suzuki, identified as 36-year-old Trent Fenner, was transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with serious injuries. According to a news release, he was not restrained by a seatbelt.

Authorities say the driver of the Nissan, identified as 67-year-old Kevin Johnson, died due to his injuries at the scene. He was restrained by a seatbelt.

Mount Pleasant Road was closed in the area for around three hours during the investigation.

Charges are pending the ongoing investigation.
