Morning Brew: 7-Year Dog Journey + New Colorado Pen Pal Program
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In this Pure Intentions Coffee Morning Brew, a man and his dog complete a 7-year journey of walking around the world and a new Colorado pen pal program is helping children with development they missed out on during the pandemic.
A dog named Savannah is now the first dog to walk around the world.
Her owner Tom from New Jersey was inspired to walk around the globe after a longtime friend passed away.
He set off in 2015 and adopted Savannah a few months later.
Together the pair walked across six continents and 38 countries.
They spent most nights camping and walked between 18 to 24 miles each day.
The trip took seven years, with a few delays from illness and the pandemic.
Tom is the 10th person on record to walk around the world.
Savannah still walks at least four miles a day, but is adjusting to staying in one place.
Plus, a new Colorado pen pal program is helping young children with development they missed out on, being at home during the pandemic.
Barn Buddies lets students write to animals.
The animals read the letters and write back.
The Barn Buddies all respond with the help of Natalie Hittmeier, a social worker, who wants to help children with their mental health.
