CHARLOTTE, N.C. — With rising labor costs and longer waits for hiring a contractor, you might be considering taking on a DIY project, but a new report in rates.com says some of those could be illegal unless you’re a professional.

This includes:

  • upgrading your electrical panel
  • upgrading your stove from electric to gas
  • taking out a wall to open up your kitchen
  • installing a water heater
