LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Sheriff’s detectives have identified a body found in a pond near the scene of a deadly shooting in Denver, North Carolina. Investigators say Anthony Herriott, 30, is the suspect they were looking for in the fatal shooting of Debra Jackson. She was found shot in the head in the front lawn of a home on Sherwood Lane Monday afternoon.
Detectives say it appears Herriott died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. When his body was recovered from the pond, he was still in possession of a handgun that detectives say was used in his death and Jackson’s death.
Family members found Jackson dead on Monday after the school system alerted them that her children had not been picked up from school.
Evidence in the case is being processed to confirm the exact cause of death.

On Tuesday, January 10th, search teams discovered a body in a small pond located near the crime scene. Detectives are working to identify the second person to determine if the deaths are related.
LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. – A homicide investigation is underway in Lincoln County. The Sheriff’s Office says a woman was shot to death around 3:25pm Monday at a home on Sherwood Lane in Denver.
Detectives are seeking a person of interest in the woman’s death. Her name was not released. Additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
This is the first homicide in Lincoln County in 2023.
