Update:
CMPD has reopened Albemarle Road following a SWAT situation.
Police say the armed suspect was wanted for multiple warrants and didn’t follow officer’s commands. CMPD’s SWAT Unit and negotiators were called to the scene and engaged in dialogue with the suspect for hours, according to police.
Officers deployed flash bangs to distract the man after he set his weapon down on the ground, according to CMPD. However, police say the man then picked the weapon back up and shot himself. He was transported to a local hospital.
Police say E. W.T. Harris Boulevard at Albemarle Road will remain closed due to the investigation but Albemarle Road has been reopened.
