The Top Five Most Common Dreams In North Carolina, According To Experts

NORTH CAROLINA, U.S. (Newsletter) –New data by the Journo Research Organization reveals the top five most common dreams in North Carolina, according to experts.

• North Carolina residents are more likely to have dreams about snakes than anything else, with the dream category having an average monthly search volume of 3,781. Nightmares, dreams about teeth, dreams about being pregnant, and sex dreams round out the top five most common dreams in North Carolina.

The research, conducted by sleep experts Eachnight, analyzed online search data to determine the top five most common dreams in each state. A list of search terms was sorted into categories, including ‘what do spiders mean in dreams’ into ‘dreams about spiders’, and ranked based on monthly search volume per 100,000 residents.

Double board-certified in Psychiatry and sleep medicine, Dr. Chester Wu, M.D., has offered expert commentary on the possible meanings of the top five most common dreams. It is important to note, however, that dreams are highly speculative, deeply personal, and not entirely understood.

1. Dreams about Snakes

Dreams about snakes are the number one most common dream in North Carolina. In the Tar Heel State, residents search for terms related to dreams about snakes 3,781 times a month, with ‘Snake dream’ being the most popular search term.

These dreams ‘may be related to feelings of fear, anxiety, or uncertainty’ in waking life, according to Dr. Wu.

2. Nightmares

Nightmares receive a silver medal as the second most common dream in North Carolina, with 3,351 average monthly searches. ‘Nightmares’ has the highest volume in the state.

Dr. Wu commented: ‘Nightmares are more common in children than adults, but these dreams can occur at any age. They can be caused by a variety of factors – including stress, anxiety, trauma, and sleep disorders – and can cause feelings of fear, anxiety, or even terror. From a biological perspective, nightmares occur during the REM phase of sleep, but the exact reasons for their themes or content remain unknown.’

3. Dreams about Teeth

Dreams about teeth pregnant are the third most common dream category. North Carolina residents search for teeth-dream-related terms 3,285 times a month, with the term ‘Dreams about teeth falling out’ having the highest monthly search volume.

Dreams about losing teeth or dental issues are common and have been linked to anxiety, feelings of powerlessness, or fear of helplessness. Commented Dr. Wu. Some research suggests that teeth-related dreams may also be linked to dental irritation during sleep, such as teeth grinding or clenching.

4. Dreams about being Pregnant

Dreams about being pregnant are the fourth most common dream in North Carolina. This dream category has an average monthly search volume of 2,000, with ‘Dreaming of being pregnant’ representing the highest search volume in the state.

According to Dr. Wu, dreaming about being pregnant ‘may represent a desire for pregnancy’ as well as an inherent ‘fear of becoming pregnant’.

5. Sex Dreams

Sex dreams are the fifth most common dream. The research has revealed that North Carolina residents search for intimate-dream-related terms 1,928 times a month, with ‘Wet dream’ having the highest search volume in the category.

‘Intimate dreams can be a way to explore your sexuality, express your desires, or process your sexual experiences. They can also be a sign of stress, anxiety, or relationship problems,’ commented Dr. Wu. ‘While there is some understanding of the brain’s activity during such dreams—including increased activity in areas related to pleasure and emotion—the specific reasons for their occurrence aren’t well understood scientifically.’
