CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The latest drought monitor is in – and it’s not looking good. It’s been nearly one month since our last day with measurable rainfall at Charlotte-Douglas airport. Fortunately, that streak likely comes to an end this weekend as a rainmaking system approaches from the west. Unfortunately, models are not bullish on rain totals. the latest guidance suggests most communities in our half of the Carolinas will end up with less than a half-inch of rain over the next five days. At this point, however, we’ll take whatever we can get.
Much of western North Carolina remains under a burn ban until further notice. Multiple wildfires continue to burn across the Foothills and mountains of North Carolina and Virginia.
