Second Arrest Made In Connection To Troutman Homicide

TROUTMAN, N.C. – The second suspect in connection to the homicide in Troutman on Saturday, November 4th has turned himself in.

James Richard Gann, 19, surrendered himself at the Iredell County Detention Center in Statesville, North Carolina on Thursday, November 16th.

Gann was held without bond. He’s been charged with the following:

  • First-Degree Murder
  • Attempted First-Degree Murder
  • Assault With A Deadly Weapon With Intent To Kill, Inflict Serious Injury
  • Discharging A Firearm Into Occupied Property, Resulting In Injury
  • Attempted Robbery With A Dangerous Weapon

ORIGINAL STORY

TROUTMAN, N.C. – The Troutman Police Department is searching for a suspect in connection to a homicide that occurred on Saturday, November 4th.

According to a news release, Zachary Craig, 20, and Alexander Hipple, 18, agreed to meet two suspects at Mills Avenue to sell the suspects marijuana.

Upon arrival, the suspects allegedly approached the victim’s vehicle and pointed firearms at the victims demanding that they hand over the marijuana, police say.

According to a news release, the victims attempted to leave by driving away from the scene of the attempted robbery.

The suspect is accused of opening fire on the vehicle striking Hipple three times and Craig one time, according to authorities.

Hipple died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The Troutman Police Department and NC SBI say they were able to identify a 17-year-old as one of the suspects. That suspect was taken into custody and is being held at a juvenile detention center.

The second suspect has been identified as 19-year-old James Gann of Cornelius. Warrants for Gann’s arrest have been obtained. A Search warrant was served at Gann’s residence with the assistance of the Cornelius Police Department to attempt to locate Gann and gather evidence.

According to a news release, Gann is currently at large and is believed to have fled out of state.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 911. Police are warning that Gann should be considered armed and dangerous.
