EXCERPT: A few scattered showers will try and hang on Wednesday as we transition into a beautiful Thanksgiving Day.
SUBTITLE: Rain totals will likely end up between 1-3″ for most through Wednesday afternoon.
Wet weather has finally moved in and will continue to make Tuesday a real soaker! A huge area of Low pressure & associated cold front will push in from the northwest, bringing widespread shower coverage throughout the day. An isolated rumble of thunder is possible as a powerful cold front slices through our area by the evening. A low-end severe threat may also crop up around this timeframe. Localized heavy rainfall over 2″ is the main threat, but gusty winds and even a weak spin-up are possible with the front’s arrival. Much drier air filters in behind the system, but a sluggish upper-level low may provide enough energy for a few showers during the early afternoon on Wednesday. The Queen City should dry out in time for the Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade in Uptown Wednesday evening.
Despite the clouds and showers, highs should crack 60° on Wednesday in and around the Metro. Thanksgiving will turn out drier, with leftovers, although we’ll be noticeably cooler in the 40s and 50s. We’ll need to watch for another weak rainmaking system from the southwest as we head into Friday. That system will only provide a brief passing rain chance. The weekend ahead is looking sunny with near-average temperatures approaching 60°.
