Toyota Will Be Adopting Tesla Charging Standard For Toyota Electric Vehicles

New charging options coming for Toyota electric vehicles

Big news for drivers of Toyota electric vehicles! Toyota and Lexus are implementing the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for all new electric vehicles starting in 2025. This change results from an agreement between Tesla and Toyota that will allow Toyota EV drivers to utilize Tesla supercharging stations and it’s a huge step in streamlining electric car use.

How Long Does it Take to Charge an Electric Car?

A big question we get at Toyota of N Charlotte: How long does it take to charge an electric car? Here’s some insight into the three charger levels and their EV charging time spectrum.

Level One Charger – This charger offers 120V and is the standard charging port in America. We’re pretty much talking about the three-prong outlet chargers you find at home. The electric car charging time with one of these is several days, so it’s not the best option for everyone. We would say that Toyota plug-in hybrids and EV drivers with a short daily commute would benefit the most from a level-one charger.

Level Two Charger – Here we have double the voltage, with this port coming in at 240V. A professional electrician can actually install one of these at your home if you’re willing to put in the money, and their EV charging time is typically 4-10 hours. You can also find these charging stations out and about, just maybe not as frequently as Tesla superchargers.

Level Three Charger – Of course, these are going to be your best and fastest option. With an electric car charging time of 20-60 minutes, you just can’t beat the convenience of a level three charger. Unfortunately, you cannot add them to your home, but that’s why we’re so excited for Toyota EV drivers to have access to the 12,000 Tesla supercharging stations!
