Local Man Shot, Killed In Child Sex Predator Investigation
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – A 33-year-old man was shot and killed in Kannapolis after firing a weapon at officers that were attempting to arrest him for trying to meet with a juvenile for sex, according to the Kannapolis Police Department.
At approximately 1:45 p.m., the suspect arrived at a home on Bellwood Place in Kannapolis after chatting online with whom he believed was a 15-year-old female. Police believe he was meeting the teen at that residence for sex.
When the suspect entered the home, officers were there to arrest him before he allegedly started resisting arrest.
The suspect then supposedly drew a weapon and fired it at the officers.
Police returned fire in response and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the KPD.
No officers or other citizens were injured.
The suspect’s name has not been released yet.
The incident remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
