CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A judge sentenced a convicted felon from Charlotte to nearly seven years in prison for repeated offenses for illegally possessing a firearm, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.
Court documents revealed that Quincy Dushawn McWaine, 26, illegally possessed firearms on three separate occasions between July 2021 and June 2022.
On July 2nd, 2021, McWaine was arrested after officers answered to an alleged assault with a deadly weapon call. Police approached him to question him in connection to the incident when they spotted a firearm sticking out of his pant pocket.
In December of 2021, police located McWaine, who was wearing an electronic monitor device for prior offenses, and attempted to make a traffic stop. McWaine then evaded arrest by vehicle and later on foot before being arrested. Investigators found a firearm in the area that McWaine discharged while fleeing on foot.
The third incident occurred on June 3rd, 2022 when CMPD officers attempted to execute outstanding arrest warrants against McWaine. Police spotted McWaine in the rear passenger seat of a vehicle parked at a gas station. Officers found a loaded firearm under the seat McWaine was sitting in, and took him into custody.
McWaine pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon earlier this year on June 20th. He remains in custody and will serve his 82-month sentence at a federal facility.
He will serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
