Historic Charlotte-Area Bojangles Reopens With Event Nodding To The Past
CHARLOTTE, NC (News Release) – In 1977, the Bojangles restaurant located at 300 West Blvd became a cornerstone of the Charlotte community, serving its signature chicken, biscuits and tea to all. Forty-six years later, the iconic restaurant has undergone a major renovation and will celebrate its reopening with a throwback event for longstanding and new guests on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.
βThe West Boulevard restaurant holds a special place in the hearts of Charlotteans, and we are dedicated to preserving its legacy,” said Jose Armario, Bojanglesβ Chief Executive Officer. “We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion and look forward to continuing to serve our community with the same great Southern food and hospitality that has defined us for decades.”
As the first restaurant to bear the original Bojangles logo and the longest-operating restaurant in the company, the West Boulevard location has served all types of customers from morning commuters to late-night crowds, and even stayed open to serve guests during the infamous Hurricane Hugo aftermath in 1989.
βMy time working in the West Boulevard restaurant was fast-paced, to say the least. There was rarely a lull in customer traffic each day,β said David Maisel, one of the restaurantβs first employees and now a retired Bojangles franchisee. βThe restaurant was a real melting pot of the Charlotte region. I think a lot of it had to do with the centralized location, but of course, the food was always the real draw.β
Maisel says the original restaurant saw record-breaking sales from the start, putting Bojangles on the Charlotte map and kicking off its fandom across the region. The recent remodel included a complete overhaul of the restaurantβs interior and dining room, an extended drive-thru window, self-serve kiosks and an all-new digital menu board and signage.
The grand reopening event will feature several exciting elements to commemorate this historic occasion, including a ceremonial unveiling with remarks from Bojanglesβ CEO and company leaders, throwback uniforms, a selfie wall banner, and gift card giveaways with purchase while supplies last. Additionally, from Tuesday, Dec. 5 through Tuesday, Dec. 12, Bojangles will offer a special throwback mealβfeaturing eight pieces of boldly seasoned chicken, four made-from-scratch biscuits, two fixinsβ and a half-gallon of teaβfor just $19.77 in honor of the year Bojangles was founded, only at the West Boulevard location.
Since its start in 1977, Bojangles has built on its solid foundation and opened doors in new markets. Today, the franchise operates more than 800 restaurants in 17 states and is spreading the popular βItβs Bo Time!β chant across the nation.
