Statesville Man Charged With Arson
STATESVILLE, N.C. – A 44-year-old man has been arrested and charged with arson after burning two uninhabited buildings earlier this week, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 9:43 a.m. on Sunday, November 26th, police received a call about a vacant residence on fire on Old Miller Road in western Iredell County. Detectives were suspicious about this fire, but nobody was injured or in the house at the time.
Later that day at 5:32 p.m., another vacant residence went up in flames on Island Ford Road, less than one mile away from the first house fire. Detectives and firefighters were alerted to a suspicious person carrying a flashlight and walking through the woods away from the fire.
A canine unit tracked the suspect and led detectives to Barry Thomas Moose Jr.’s home at 265 Old Miller Road.
Moose had a previous history of intentionally burning a vacant home in the area. Police arrested him the following morning.
Police took Moose to the Iredell County Detention Center and charged him with two counts of felony burning of an uninhabited building.
He remains held with a $245,000 secured bond. Moose has a criminal history of burning buildings and personal property along with various motor vehicle violations.
