BELMONT, N.C. – Belmont Police officers de-escalated an incident involving a suicidal man with a gun Saturday night.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., police responded to a home off Assembly Street in Belmont in reference to an armed man, threatening to take his own life.
Officers arrived shortly after and made contact with the subject that was armed with a handgun. Additional responding officers alerted neighbors in the area of the situation to minimize any further threats.
After some time passed, police say the man exited the home before officers disarmed and restrained him without incident.
Authorities say the man was transported to CMC Main by EMS and Belmont Police officers to be evaluated and treated.
